We want to improve the content of Geek9pm. Your comments and suggestions are helpful. The things we talk about are very computer centered. Up to now, there are no specific  categories. We are thinking about making categories that would cover these areas:
Android, Apple, E-Bay, Games, Google, Intel, Internet, Linux, Microsoft,Networking, Programming, Storage, TV, USB, Wi-Fi, Windows and X-Box.

By the way. The term Wi-Fi is not fully understood. Click on that word for a good definition.

If we were talking about robots that term Android my concrete to mind the character on the TV program Star Trek. But in this case, the term “Android “refers to a new software system for smart phones Tablet and laptop computers.
It’s very likely the next smart phone you purchase will be based on the Android operating system.  This new operating system is now part of the google collection of software.  Actually, somebody else started it;  Google purchased IT. Google is doing everything it can to promote this as the single operating system for both tablet PCs and smart phoneS. A large number of smart phones now have the Android 2.2 operating system.  There is a strong effort now to update new ore smart phones with the Android 4 operating system.  The code name for this system is called “ice cream sandwich “.
Sounds like a silly name, but it has a very serious impact on the mobile device industry.  Anything that communicates, stores data, and is portable could be a possible candidate for the Android 4.0 operating system.
Of course, the Apple I- phone release started at all.  Before Apple, phones for just phones and hardly anything else.  However, Apple wants to keep the software to themselves.  They can make more money that way by having the exclusive operating system and exclusive hardware.  Now if you can afford an apple I phone, go for it.  It is an excellent choice.  But if you’d like to have more flexibility at lower-cost, you’re going to have to do what others to. Get an Android smart phone.
And don’t imagine that the Android operating system is only for mobile devices.  Work is underway to refine the Android system so it will work on the personal computer.  This means that by the time Microsoft says Windows 8 available, the Android operating system will be good enough to run a desktop computer.  Really, in fact, there are some versions of Android that right now will work on some desktop systems.  It is just a matter of time before hardware drivers are found were created for the majority of desktop computers.
So is the Android OS as good as Windows 7? Of course not. But on a tablet or smart phone yo0u would not want Windows 7 either. To big. To costly. Short battery life.

By the way; Smartphones don’t use Intel CPUs.  Instead they use power efficient designs made elsewhere. The name of the company is ARM and is a public traded stock. Here is their web site link:

This is a true story. AT&T admits they cut back the internet speed of one of its customers . He went over his limit. He had a unlimited plan.

To make the the story short, a Judge in small claims court says customer was right, the big phone company was wrong. So they must pay him $850. In effect, that means he gets out of his contract with them.

Everybody has heard about the SOPA issue. The president of the US said he would not support it. So some headlines not read ‘SOPA is Dead.’ The is not altogether true.  The bill can be revised and approved again and next time may become law..

The point being overlooked is very simple. Money. Who0 will gain or lose the most.? Granted, many file sharing web sites are in violation of the Copyright laws. But the blatant file-sharing web sites make a lot of money for the owners. A lot of money.

Surely I am not the only one that things Hollywood needs ton direct their attention to other sways of protecting their works. Let’s take for an sample 3-D movies.

At the present time the is no way the impact of a 3D movie is a big screen theater filled with a live audience can be reproduced in a poor copy of the movie on a home computer. It is not the same experience. The medium is the message. The studios need to produce top quality files that people are willing  to patronize..

The laws that already exist do help control copyright violation.  They need to be enforced. Telling people something is free went nit is not is fraud. That is a crime. The file-sharing websites are telling people they may download copyrighted movies and TV shows. Not true. Those sites deserve to be shut down.

Although SOPA is not now law, piracy of others people’s property still is a crime.

The sales of hard disk drives may appear to be slowing down. New consumer devices now use Solid State storage instead of mechanical Hard drives. But for storage of huge amounts of data, the hard drive industry will still be here even years from now.

New developments make it posible to store much more data into a spall space using a combination of mechanical and rootlet-magnetic technology. But you can not yet  buy the newest thing. It is still in the early stage. Here is a Link:
